Ways To Help Prevent And Remove Ticks On Your Pets

With the warmer weather here, your pets are bound to spend more time outdoors.

Fido is probably standing at the door right now with his leash in his mouth begging to go outside.

Many pet moms and dads have a few concerns about their pets being outside; the top one is usually ticks.

Knowing how to prevent ticks from latching onto your dog, and removing them if you find them is an important part of being pet parents.

Prevention is key: there are many ways to help prevent ticks from getting onto your dogs like oral medications, shampoos, tick dips, and topical spot on treatments.

Many of the above will instantly kill ticks on contact if they do manage to jump on board.

Where should you check your dog for ticks after they spend some time outside? You should check between their toes, inside the ears, between their legs and arms, around their neck and check deep in their fur as well.

How do you remove the tick if one manages to grab on? You can use tweezers or a tick removal tool.

Using the tweezers, grab ahold of the tick by its head, getting as close to the skin as possible, and then pull the tick straight out and firmly without twisting or squeezing the body.

Once the tick is completely out you can clean your dog’s skin with a disinfectant or apply a triple antibiotic ointment to the area where the tick was.
